Large areas of old-growth rainforest, particularly in Southeast Asia, have been cleared for oil palm plantations, leading to severe biodiversity loss, increased greenhouse gas emissions, and land rights conflicts. Eventhough we see and acknowledge the positive impact that certifications have on the ground, Reitan Convenience's position is that certification alone is not sufficient. The scale and intensity of global palm oil production make truly sustainable cultivation impossible. Scientific evidence also indicates negative effects on human health.
