the why
Large areas of old-growth rainforest, particularly in Southeast Asia, have been cleared for oil palm plantations, leading to severe biodiversity loss, increased greenhouse gas emissions, and land rights conflicts. That needs to stop. While the goal is to completely eliminate the use of palm oil, for some products, that is simply not doable. For non-food or drink products, we are such a small player that our leverage is limited. It’s also a very small proportion of what we sell. What we can do though, is to demand as good production methods as possible. So for the non eat- or drinkable products, we are demanding independent certifications to ensure the best possible farming and production.
